Star Files is a self-hosted file sharing site built for dropping tracks, archives, and documents and getting a clean link back. No account is required to start — audio uploads automatically get cover art, a built-in player, and readable tag metadata on their share page.
Any file type can be uploaded. Audio files (mp3, flac, m4a, wav, ogg, aac, wma, opus, aiff) get embedded cover art, a player, and metadata pulled automatically. Images use themselves as the thumbnail. Everything else — video, PDFs, archives, code, documents — gets a clean file-type icon and downloads exactly as uploaded.
As little as possible. Anonymous uploads store no personal info beyond the upload's IP address and timestamp in the admin logger. If you register an account, only a username and a hashed password are kept — never the plain-text password. There's no ad tracking on this site.
No. Anyone can upload up to 2GB per file with no sign-in at all. Creating a free account raises that to 5GB, and admin accounts get 10GB.
Files stay live for as long as they're on the server's storage — there's no automatic expiration right now. Whoever runs this instance can remove a file at any time from the admin panel or API, which immediately breaks its share link.
Not yet. Share links use a long, random, unguessable ID instead of a public listing, so files aren't discoverable — but that's obscurity, not encryption. Don't rely on a share link alone for anything sensitive.
Yes — an admin can generate an API key from the admin panel's API keys tab. Keys can upload, fetch metadata for, and delete files over HTTP, which is enough to wire up a Discord bot or any other integration.
